Loughrea and Athenry students get certs for Chernobyl fundraising
The Transition Year Students of Gairmscoil Mhuire, Athenry and St Raphael’s College, Loughrea, were presented with their certificates from Pat Dillon of the Sunflowers Chernobyl Childrens Charity, for their efforts in raising awareness and money for the Sunflowers Christmas Craft Fair Fundraising Event, which is to be held at the Raheen Woods Hotel on Sunday December 11. The students entered a poster competition, Georgia Dennis Hurlock and Ceire Maher of Gairmscoil Mhuire and Annabel Hynes of St Raphael’s College, were joint winners.
Three Mayo clubs make Volvo top 100 Irish course
There will be cause for celebration on three golf courses in Mayo this week as they have been included in the Golf Digest Volvo Top 100 ranked Irish golf courses for 2012. Carne Golf Links in Belmullet has climbed four places from last year’s list to number 21 in the rankings, with the two other Mayo clubs making the list being Westport at number 56, down 11 spots from 2011, and Ballinrobe moving up one to number 90.

Twenty doubles teams from Galway, Loughrea and Ennis competed at this year’s Spring Doubles Tournament at the Galway Lawn Tennis Club.
Over €4,000 given to Chernobyl charity
There were smiles all round in Eyre Square as a cheque of over €4,000 was presented to the Sunflower Chernobyl Appeal and a number of children from Belarus.
